It seems every few years
that I find
a stash of old
scrawlings
of mine
and marvel
How silly I was!
But also
how wise
I've become
Then probe
for a pen.

Penciling Diamonds
If the pencil still carried
A cold heart of lead
Many nibblers and gnawers
Would surely be dead.
But the core of each stick
Is now darker and liter-
What gemstones are made of,
And still more to a writer.
There is no better tool
To transcribe words of might
Than a thin wooden shell
Housing carbon as graphite.
Just a rough allotrope
Yes, a mere polymorph
That wordsmiths worldwide,
Lay down by the corf.
A literal alchemist
Can bring diamonds about
When they make it a point
To just write them all out!

01/01/2010 Marking the Day
Yesterday was the first
day of the rest of your past.
Did you do or say something
that could potentially last?
Today's the first day
of the rest of your time.
So why don't you mark it
with rhythm and rhyme?

Happy New Year!
2010 begins in less than 6 hours. Being a curious dabbler in many hobbies and still master of nothing, I have resolved to focus my passions in the coming year and attempt to become better at something. This will include writing, as I will aim to write a poem for every day of the upcoming year. Posts here may also include recipes, short blurbs regarding current events, and possibly some poetry written by readers if any of you care to share your work (and I happen to like what I read.) Feel free to send me something or leave a comment in verse!
This is just one of my 2 main objectives for the year, please check out the One Face in the Crowd project.
