Mid-year Resolution Revision

Today's post will be an announcement rather than a poem.  Week #26 just blew past, meaning we're halfway through the new year.  I'm sure you've noticed that I've been getting a bit lax in my postings lately.  I'll miss a day or two, then come back with some sort of defensive jingle- that doesn't necessarily mean I didn't write that day, but  not everything I pen is meant for the public domain.

In addition to the fact that I am about to return to the bleeding first draft of my novel, and will be spending a lot of time editing, lately I've been itching to dig deeper putting more time and soul into my poetry.  From week 27 onward I will be focusing more on quality and less on quantity.  I will be writing or editing almost every day, but you can expect at least one or two postings per week rather than seven-  hopefully they will be of a higher caliber than most of the off-beat nursery rhymes I've been hammering out after I should be in bed.

The Darkening

Sunbeams bow to dusk
faster in a forest.
Leaf canopies darken and melt
merging like the fern sea below.
Winds give life to green waves.
A sole sparrow's spirited melody
accents the creek's constant chord
beckoning a blackness
only flickering orange flames
hold at bay.

Wedding planners,
Singers, brides
And pastors.
Cantaloupe
Loved by all
Cake decorators,
Punch providers,
White frosting makers.
Cantaloupe
Is truly loved
By tuxedo seamsters,
Picky mothers,
Unity candle
Tallow smugglers
Cantaloupe.
